• Day 1: Arrive in Castelnaudary

  Arrive in 17th century Castelnaudary, clustered around the beautiful Grand Bassin with its iconic church standing proud on the horizon. After settling into your boat, stroll into town for dinner and be sure to try Cassoulet, a local speciality of sausage, goose and duck, slow cooked in a casserole with white beans.
• Day 2: Castelnaudary to Villesèquelande
  26km / 19 locks / 6hrs of cruising
  After a morning of gentile cruising and a lazy lunch on board, unload the bikes for a short cycle into Bram, an attractive town arranged in a concentric circle around the pretty church. Then onwards to overnight in quiet Villesèquelande.
• Day 3: Villesèquelande to mymedic.es Carcassonne
  14km / 5 locks / 3.5hrs of cruising
  Explore the impressive, fortified city of Carcassonne with its bustling network of cobbled streets thronging with restaurants and shops, all nestled inside the imposing city walls. Take a guided tour around the huge 12th Century Château Comtal and the fearless might enjoy the gruesome Musée de l’Inquisition. And don’t miss the ethereal magnificence of the Basilica of Saint Nazaire.
• Day 4: Carcassonne to Trèbes
  12km / 6 locks / 3.5hrs of cruising
  Head away from the canal on an organised tour to the spectacular Domaine Gayda, one of the leading wine producers in the area. Tour the state-of-the-art winery and enjoy a relaxed and fun tasting of their excellent range of wines. Finish with a three-course lunch, with wine, in their superb restaurant that overlooks the Pyrenees before returning to Carcassonne for your onward journey to Trèbes.
• Day 5: Trèbes to Argen Minervois
  34km / 18 locks / 8 hrs of cruising
  Enjoy the slow pace of the canal as you spend most of the day cruising, stopping to admire the pretty village of Marseilette on the way. Your destination is the beautiful town of Argens Minervois, clustered around a 14th century chateau, so have a wander around before dinner
• Day 6: Argens Minervios to Le Somail
  14km / 1 lock / 2.5hrs of cruising
  Overlooking the canal, Château de Paraza is the site of an impressive winery. Look around and sample the produce and then continue onwards to Le Somail. In the afternoon, why not hire the most legendary of convertible cars, an old Mythic 2 CV, a fun way to drive through the vineyards and countryside toward L’Oulibo Olive Cellars to learn how olive oil is made,
• Day 7: Le Somail to Capestang
  22km / 0 locks / 5hrs of cruising
  Visit Madam Gourgue’s Antiquarian Bookshop where you’ll find everything from cheap paperbacks to very rare editions, crammed in bookshelves from floor to ceiling. Onward to Capestang and, for something exquisite, dress up for dinner and take a short taxi ride to the very grand Château les Carrasses for a fine-dining experience in a beautiful setting.
• Day 8: Capestang to Colombiers
  13km / 0 locks / 2.5hrs of cruising
  Explore Capestang including its 14th century castle & impressive painted ceilings. Further along the canal, visit the Oppidum of Ensérune, an archaeological site and museum with impressive views over the dried Montady Lake. Then it’s time to navigate through the 165m long Malpas tunnel. In Colombiers, visit the Saint-Sylvestre church, which is full of history and at night, the rectory’s gardens are lit up and are perfect for a charming walk
• Day 9: Colombiers to Villeneuve Béziers
  13km / 11 locks / 5hrs of cruising
  Today you will descend the famous Foneserranes staircase of seven locks. Then it’s onwards, past Beziers, to moor just past the bustling city in the more peaceful surroundings of Villeneuve Béziers.
• Day 10: Villeneuve Béziers to Port Cassafières
  9km / 1 lock / 2.5hrs of cruising
  Explore magnificent Béziers, one of the Midi’s largest cities. Don’t miss the 13th century Romanesque cathedral with terrific views out over the surrounding vineyards. Then cruise the final stretch to Port Cassafières for a stroll along the beach at Portiranges to build your appetite for dinner.

• Day 1: Migennes to Bassou
  5km / 2 locks / 1hr of cruising
  Arrive in Migennes and begin your cruise southwards, finding a peaceful spot on the river banks to moor for the night
• Day 2: Bassou to Auxerre
  18km / 8 locks / 5hrs of cruising
  Auxerre is the largest city in the area, steeped in history and bustling with markets, shops and French patisseries. Be sure to visit St Etienne Cathedral and its impressive stained glass windows, as well as the 6th century Abbey of St Germain, the city’s most venerable monument with is remarkable 12th century steeple.
• Day 3: Auxerre to Vincolettes
  13km / 8 locks / 4hrs of cruising
  There’s time to stroll back into Auxerre this morning for some shopping, a spot of lunch in one of many fine eateries and to stock up on provisions. Then head onwards to Bailly for a tour of the Wine Cooperative – housed deep underground in four hectares of underground galleries and tunnels.
• Day 4: Vincolettes to Mailly-la-Ville
  15km / 8 locks / 5hrs of cruising
  Walk or cycle to Escolives Sainte Camille, where archaeological diggings have unearthed fascinating vestiges of Roman occupation. Next stop is the pretty and flower-adorned village of Cravant, once a fortified village with remains of the walls and moat still visible.
• Day 5: Mailly-la-Ville to Châtel Censoir
  13km / 6 locks / 4hrs of cruising
  Stunning views over the Nivernais valley can be seen in the hilltop village of Mailly-le-Château before cruising onwards, past the Saussois Rocks, an impressive wall of limestone that towers over the canal for almost 50 meters. More impressive views await in Châtel Censoir where you can amble around the ancient church and tumbledown walls.
• Day 6: Châtel Censoir to Clamecy
  18km / 10 locks / 5hrs of cruising
  A trip away from the canal to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Vezelay is well worth it. Wander around the ramparts, past the traditional 15th – 17th century houses, charming boutiques, galleries cafes and restaurants. At the centre the splendid Basilique Ste Marie-Madeleine draws you in, a wonderful example of Romanesque architecture.
• Day 7: Clamecy to Tannay
  18km / 8 locks / 4hrs of cruising
  Flanked by three waterways, the stunningly attractive town of Clamecy is described as the ‘town of beautiful reflections’ and a stroll through its winding streets is a true delight. There’s time for a stop in medieval Dornecy before finishing in Tannay which sits high on a hill overlooking acres of vineyards.

The enchanting Venetian Lagoon, the golden sands of the Adriatic Coast and the peaceful countryside of the Friuli region are yours to discover on this week-long boating holiday. A perfect route for first-time boaters who wish to experience the delights of the city. This itinerary steers you clear of the busy waterways around central Venice, directing you instead to neighbouring islands so you can use the speedy water-taxi service to get you to the thriving city centre.

• Day 1: Precenicco to Marano Lagunare

  Cruise down the peaceful River Stella and head across the Marano Lagoon to Marano Lagunare, an old fishing village full of character. The main square, dominated by the beautifully restored millenary tower, has an excellent choice of seafood restaurants. Buon appetito!
• Day 2: Marano Lagunare to Concordia Sagittaria
  40km / 1 lock / 1 Lifting Bridge / 4hrs of cruising
  Head back across the Lagoon to join the canal which runs along the sunny Adriatic Coast towards Venice. A detour north will bring you to Concordia Sagittaria and neighbouring Portogruaro, where a guided walk will reveal the fascinating Roman history of these two pretty towns.
• Day 3: Concordia Sagittaria to Caorle
  25km / 0 locks / 2 Lifting Bridges / 3hrs of cruising
  Your next stop is Caorle to admire the traditional coloured houses and explore the quirky shops and boutiques. Enjoy delicious ice cream in one of the many Gelateria and stroll to the beach for a dip in the Adriatic.
• Day 4: Caorle to Lido di Jesolo
  70km / 1 lock / 4 Lifting Bridges / 7.5hrs of cruising
  Spend a leisurely day cruising, enjoying the spectacular wildlife of the Friuli region – bound for the chic beach resort of Lido de Jesolo
• Day 5: Lido di Jesolo to Vignole (Venice)
  30km / 1 lock / 0 Lifting Bridges / 3hrs of cruising
  After a morning on the sand, cruise onward to the Venetian lagoon to moor in Vignole. A speedy Vaperetto ferry will take you into the heart of Venice. Marvel at St Mark’s Square and visit the famous St Mark’s Basilica, and tour the Doge’s Palace next door. Take the elevator to the top of the Campanile, the iconic bell-tower, for great views of the Square and beyond.
• Day 6: Vignole to Burano

  Before departing Venice, wander around the famous Rialto market and the impressive Rialto Bridge next door. And don’t leave without taking an iconic Gondala ride! • Day 1: Arrive in Trèbes

  Arrive in pretty Trebes and, after settling into your boat, discover the beautiful oak beams and sculpted figures of the 13th century church nearby.
• Day 2: Trèbes to Puichéric

  Take a short taxi ride to the ancient Cathar stronghold of Carcassonne for a tour of the city walls and 12th Century Chateau. Enjoy lunch among the bustling cobbled streets within the city walls and then head back to your boat and begin you peaceful cruise eastwards.
• Day 3: Puichéric to Ventenac
  25km / 8 locks / 5hrs of cruising
  Explore the leafy trails of Le Redorte before lunch at the elegant Chateau. Then it’s time for a spot of wine-tasting at the Ventenac Minervois Cave Cooperative… and chance to stock up for the rest of your journey of course!
• Day 4: Ventenac to Le Somail

  In Le Somail, wander among the crammed bookshelves of Madam Gourgue’s Antiquarian Bookshop where you’ll find everything from cheap paperbacks to very rare editions. After lunch, head into the countryside for a tour around the Olive Groves of L’Oulibo.
• Day 5: Le Somail to Narbonne
  18km / 9 locks / 5.5 hrs of cruising
  Visit the fascinating Amphoralis gallo-roman potters’ Museum, the site of a 1st – 3rd century Roman Potter factory that has recently been uncovered. Spend the afternoon cruising along the pretty Canal de la Robine towards Narbonne
• Day 6: Narbonne to Port-la-Nouvelle
  22km / 3 locks / 4hrs of cruising
  A walk around Narbonne takes you through 2500 years of history, including the very grand Archbishop’s Palace and cloisters and the remarkable Gothic cathedral. In the afternoon, as you head south towards the Mediterranean coast, the scenery changes and the canal leads you among a vast network of lakes.
• Day 7: Port-la-Nouvelle
  22km / 3 locks / 4hrs of cruising
  Take a morning stroll around the bustling fishing port of Port-la-Nouvelle or along the vast sandy beaches nearby before heading back to Narbonne. On the way, stop for a walk around the Isle of Sainte-Lucie, a nature reserve of exceptional beauty. The day finishes back in Narbonne for a final farewell dinner – bon appétit!

  Cruise north to historic Weesp and take your bikes to the nearby Naardermeer Nature Reserve. Then, a quick 20 minute train ride will see you in the centre of Amsterdam, the lively and cosmopolitan capital of the Netherlands and famous for its its vibrant and diverse nightlife… and of course its World-renowned Red Light District?
• Day 3: Weesp (and Amsterdam) to Muiden

  Mosey around the attractive village of Loenen with its many stately homes and waterside gardens. • Day 6: Maarssen to Utrecht
